Island Driveways & Patios has been laying asphalt, setting pavers and building masonry across Suffolk County since 2017, out of a yard on Horseblock Road in Medford. Driveways, patios, walkways, steps, retaining walls, fire pits and outdoor kitchens: built by the same crew that quoted the job.

Most of our work sits within a thirty-minute drive of the yard, from Huntington on the north shore to Hampton Bays on the east end. If you can see your driveway from where you’re sitting and it’s cracking, sinking or holding water, that’s the call to make.

What we build

Asphalt Driveway Paving

New driveways, full replacements and resurfacing, laid over a properly compacted base rather than straight onto whatever was there before.

Asphalt driveway paving →

Paver Patios

Concrete pavers and natural stone set on open-graded base, pitched so the water leaves the patio instead of sitting on it.

Patio construction →

Interlocking Paver Walkways

Front paths, side runs and pool surrounds, with edge restraint that stops the border creeping after the first winter.

Paver walkways →

Steps & Stoops

Rebuilt front steps and stoops in stone, brick or paver tread, with the riser heights actually consistent from top to bottom.

Steps and stoops →

Retaining Walls

Segmental block and natural stone walls, engineered for the load behind them and drained so they don’t blow out in year three.

Retaining walls →

Chimney Repair

Repointing, crown repair, flashing and rebuilds: the masonry side of a chimney, not the flue sweep.

Chimney repair →

Fire Pits

Built-in and freestanding, gas or wood, sized and sited so the seating actually works around it.

Fire pit installation →

Hardscaping

Whole-yard work where the patio, walls, steps and planting beds have to resolve into one grade rather than three.

Hardscaping →

Masonry

Brick, block and stone: piers, veneer, garden walls, repointing and repair.

Masonry →

Oil & Stone Chip Seal

The tar-and-chip finish, for long rural drives where a full asphalt surface is more than the job needs.

Oil and stone chip seal →

Outdoor Kitchens

Built-in grills through to full cook lines with counters, storage and utility runs specified before the block goes up.

Outdoor kitchens →

Why the base matters more than the surface

Almost every failed driveway and sunken patio on Long Island failed underneath, not on top.

The sandy outwash soil across most of Suffolk County drains well, which is a genuine advantage, but it also means an under-compacted subgrade keeps settling long after the surface looks finished. On the north shore, around Huntington, Commack and Miller Place, you hit heavier clay-loam that holds water instead, and the failure mode flips: frost heave rather than settlement.

Two different problems, two different base specifications. A crew that pours the same detail in Hampton Bays as in Huntington is going to be wrong in one of them.

We excavate to depth, compact in lifts, and pitch for drainage before anything decorative happens. It is the least visible part of the job and the only part that determines whether you’re calling someone back in five years.

Working across Suffolk County

We cover twelve communities regularly, most within thirty minutes of the Medford yard:

Outside that list and still on the Island? Call and ask. We take work further out when the job is the right size for the trip.

Credentials worth checking

ICPI certified. The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute runs the trade’s installer certification. It covers base depth, bedding, compaction and edge restraint. The things that decide whether a patio is flat in ten years.

Techo-Bloc Pro. Manufacturer-recognised for Techo-Bloc paver and wall systems, which matters for warranty on their product lines.

A+ with the BBB, trading since April 2017. We are not a BBB-accredited business and we’re not going to imply otherwise. The rating and the trading history are both on the public profile and you’re welcome to check them.

Licensed and insured.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a new asphalt driveway cost in Suffolk County?
It depends on size, access, and whether the old surface comes out. The estimate is free and on site, which is the only way to give you a figure for your property rather than a range that fits everyone. Book one and we will price it in front of you, or call (631) 245-9273 to talk it through first.

How long does a driveway take?
Most residential driveways are a one- to two-day job once we’re on site: excavation and base on day one, paving on day two. You can walk on it the same day and drive on it after 48 hours in warm weather: longer if it’s cool. Keep sharp turns and parked wheels off it for the first few weeks while it cures.

When is the paving season on Long Island?
Asphalt needs the ground and the air warm enough to compact properly, so the practical window runs from spring through late autumn. Paver and masonry work has a slightly longer season because it isn’t temperature-dependent in the same way. Spring books out first: if you want work done in May, call in February.

Do you handle the permit?
It depends on the town and on what’s being built. Replacing a driveway on the same footprint usually doesn’t need one; changing the apron at the curb, altering drainage or adding impervious surface often does. We’ll tell you which applies before you sign anything.

Do you work outside Suffolk County?
Our regular area is Suffolk, from Huntington east to Hampton Bays. We’ll travel further for larger jobs: call and describe it.
