Island Driveways & Patios, Inc. is based at 3502 Horseblock Road in Medford. We pave driveways, build paver patios and walkways, set retaining walls and do the masonry that goes with them: across all of Suffolk County.
Our A+ rating is on the public BBB record, and we’d rather you check it than take our word for it.
What we actually do differently
Every contractor’s about page says “quality craftsmanship.” Here is what that means on a job site, specifically.
We quote on site, and the person who quotes it runs it. No call-centre estimate, no salesman who hands the job to a crew he’s never met. If you shook hands on a spec, the crew knows what was agreed because they were part of agreeing it.
We write the base depth on the quote. Excavation depth, base material, compacted lifts, bedding depth, edge restraint. It’s the part of the job you’ll never see again once it’s finished, and it’s the part that decides whether the surface is still flat in ten years. A quote that lists a square-foot price and nothing else is hiding where the corners get cut.
We treat the north shore and the south shore as different jobs. Sandy outwash across most of central and southern Suffolk drains beautifully and compacts badly. The clay-loam up around Huntington, Commack and Miller Place does the reverse. It holds water and heaves in a freeze-thaw winter. Same specification in both places means being wrong in one of them.
Credentials
ICPI certified installer. The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute certification is the trade standard for segmental paving. It’s an examined credential covering subgrade preparation, base and bedding, compaction sequence, jointing and edge restraint: in other words, all the parts of a patio you can’t inspect once it’s done.
Techo-Bloc Pro. Manufacturer recognition for Techo-Bloc’s paver and wall product lines, which matters because their material warranties are conditional on how the product is installed.
BBB A+. We’re rated A+ and we are not BBB accredited: those are two separate things and plenty of contractors blur them. Ours is a rating, not a paid membership.

Early starts are deliberate. Asphalt goes down better before the heat of the day, and it means a driveway is often finished before you’re home from work.
