Paver Patio Construction in Huntington, NY
Concrete paver, natural stone and brick patios across Huntington. Excavated to depth, based in compacted lifts, pitched so the water leaves, and edged so the perimeter stays where we put it.
The ground under Huntington
Huntington is north shore, and the furthest west we work. The ground is glacial moraine: till, unsorted and dense, holding water rather than shedding it. If you’ve moved up here from south of the ridge, the difference is real: down there the enemy is settlement into loose sand, up here it’s water.
For a patio, moraine till is the harder ground. It holds water rather than releasing it, and water held under paving through a freeze-thaw winter lifts it. Frost heave shows up as a patio that’s proud in one area each spring and settles back in summer. The answer is an open-graded base with a genuine route out for the water, not a deeper one that holds more.
How we do the work
Excavate. Subgrade cut to depth, checked and compacted before anything goes back in.
Base. Aggregate placed and compacted in lifts. Open-graded or dense-graded depending on the site and how water needs to move through it.
Bedding. Screeded to a consistent thickness. This is a setting layer, not a levelling layer : using thick bedding to correct a poor base is the shortcut that always shows within a year.
Lay to pattern. Cut cleanly at the edges and around obstructions rather than gapped and filled with mortar.
Edge restraint. Fixed into the base around the full perimeter. This is what makes interlocking pavers interlock. Without it the outer courses walk outward under load and frost, the joints open across the whole field, and the patio comes apart from the edges in.
Joint sand. Polymeric, swept, vibrated and set. Then a final compaction pass.
What moves the price in Huntington
Slope and distance both matter here. Sloping sites mean retaining work and level platforms before any surface can exist, which puts more of the cost into excavation and structure. And Huntington is the western end of our range, so we block-schedule work here rather than running single jobs. That means a little more lead time than the central towns, and it’s worth asking early if you have a date in mind. We’d rather say that up front than move a schedule later.
Local rules
Huntington is in the Town of Huntington. Retaining walls are the permission most likely to apply, because sloping sites reach the height threshold far more often than flat ones.
What we’ll do regardless: tell you what applies before you sign, not after we’ve started.
Why this crew
The person who quotes the job is on the crew that runs it, and the quote states the base depth, which is the line worth comparing across any estimates you’re holding.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a patio take?
Most residential patios are three to five days on site. The majority of that is excavation and base: laying the pavers is the quick part and the part that looks like progress.
Will it settle?
A properly based and compacted patio shouldn’t. Minor movement at the very edges over years is normal and correctable. Dishing in the middle is base failure, not settling.
You’re based in Medford. Do you actually work in Huntington?
Yes, regularly. It’s the western end of our area, so we schedule it in blocks rather than as one-offs. Call and we’ll tell you honestly what the timing looks like.
