The ground under Huntington
Huntington is north shore, and the furthest west we work. The ground is glacial moraine: till, unsorted and dense, holding water rather than shedding it. If you’ve moved up here from south of the ridge, the difference is real: down there the enemy is settlement into loose sand, up here it’s water.

How we do the work
If you need a patio, get a patio. Hardscaping is the right word when the problem isn’t one element but the relationship between several, and the tell is usually a grade change, or water.
Why doing it as one project costs less than doing it in three:
- One excavation. Machinery on site once, spoil removed once, access disrupted once.
- One grade. Every element set from the same datum, so the levels resolve. Patios, steps and walkways built in separate years meet at trip edges and puddles, because each was set from whatever happened to be there at the time.
- One base. Continuous under adjoining surfaces, rather than three bases butting together with a settlement joint at every meeting point.
- One drainage plan. Water is a site-wide problem. Solved once it stays solved; solved element by element, each fix creates the next problem downhill.
- One materials order. Concrete pavers vary between production batches. Material bought together matches; material bought three years apart does not, and nothing can be done about it afterwards.
How a project runs: site visit and measure, design, written specification with excavation depths and base build-ups, permits where needed, then build: excavation and grading, drainage, structures, surfaces last. Then we walk it with you.
What moves the price in Huntington
Slope and distance both matter here. Sloping sites mean retaining work and level platforms before any surface can exist, which puts more of the cost into excavation and structure. And Huntington is the western end of our range, so we block-schedule work here rather than running single jobs. Yes, and sometimes that’s the right call for budget. But phase it from a single plan with a single grade, agreed at the start. Phasing without a plan is how you end up with three surfaces that don’t meet.
What’s the best time of year to start?
Spring books out first, so plan in winter for spring work. Autumn is genuinely underrated. The ground is workable, the schedule is looser, and it’s ready for the following summer.
